Topo Purple

My Thanksgiving Open Studio was coming up, along with a local artisan fair. And it was a rainy day. And you can never have too many earrings for holiday sales. So I decided to play in my studio with some translucent clay, along with purple and white alcohol inks, mica powder, and fuchsia foil leaf. I couldn’t tell from the unbaked clay how the beads would turn out (you never can with translucent). But what came out of the oven was a nice surprise, and after sanding, buffing, and applying resin, the finished beads are a lovely stripey purple. The bead patterns remind me of a topo map, and so right there, my new collection had a name. Topo Purple has eight pairs of earrings; the first six below are glossy with resin, and the last two have a polished finish without resin.

I also created this same design in a different colorway. If you like pinks, have a look at the ever-so-sweet Topo Pink Collection.
